TAKE NOTE: The dates for this workshop are MONDAY 23RD – THURSDAY 26TH FEBRUARY 2026.

Read the information below carefully as details of accommodation and catering have changed since last year.

Hill End is a four hour drive from Sydney and only accessible by road. Students are advised to arrive in Hill End on Sunday afternoon/evening. If you do not have a car we will arrange carpooling between participants.

Workshop: In this workshop you will be able to identify and develop your own projects in response to the historic gold mining precinct, which is located on the lands of the Bularidee tribe of the Wiradjuri People.

Drawing i.e. thinking with materials in hand, will underpin the program. Choice of mediums will vary with each participant, during initial research up to final project, ranging from various dry mediums to watercolours. Experimental alternatives will be encouraged. You will need to bring your own materials, paper etc. Boards and outdoor easels can be borrowed from the Drawing Department.

More details will be forwarded to participants after registration, but read the information below and make sure you understand the nature of the workshop and the costs associated with travel and accommodation.

Sunday night dinner: You are encouraged to arrive on Sunday afternoon/evening and stay the night in Hill End, ready to start on Monday morning. For dinner on Sunday evening the group will meet at the Hill End Micro Pub (no website – see details on Facebook or Instagram) located at 23 Clarke St, Hill End. The $90 catering fee does not cover this meal.

Transport: self- drive, about 4 hours via Bathurst. Shared vehicles recommended. There is no public transport.

Accommodation: There are several accommodation options in Hill End and as rooms are increasingly being taken up by gold miners, it may not be possible for all of our group to stay at one location. Research the options below and make a selection that is best for you. The workshop will conclude after lunch on Thursday, but you may wish to stay in town for another night.

Hill End Holiday Ranch. Basic but comfortable accommodation. There is a refrigerator where some food can be stored. BRING A TOPSHEET AND A TOWEL.

Hosies is run by the National Parks and Wildlife Service and can be booked online. It is in the same building as the Hill End Micro Pub and is more expensive than the other options.

Camping with your own tent is also an option. The Village Campground is the most centrally located.
